Longwood purple is native to the southeastern USA, and is less vigorous than the asian types, making it more desirable for those who don’t like those fast growing types. The flowers are shorter, but just as colorful or even more. The rich purple flowers come out in May and June, and can be grown in a large container on the patio. This varietie is a repeat bloomer, with flowers right through September.

Growth habit: It can reach 4 to 6 meters in height. Leaning against the sun, winding to the left.

Flowers: Flowers numerous, in short, drooping racemes (10-15 cm), pea-like (2 cm), violet to lilac-violet.

Flowering time: May – June, late flowering through September.
